Non-Doll Doll
I have created an actual Non-Doll Doll out of teeshirt scraps, one donated button, and one purchased button. He is probably about 180% sized but I didn't dare try to sew him any smaller on my machine. I was afraid of a total massacre of his figure. I applied a photoshop filter to add some booksy effect. More to follow.

SIDEWALK CHALK
So last weekend I was hankering for some childhood activities. The Boyfriend and I whipped out the old Crayola sidewalk chalk and I forced his participation in filling in all the white spaces. Eventually there was a dog who wanted to walk in it (which explains the blue pawprints up by his head) and a camera! And the next day the picture made it to facebook. So Non-Doll (although he is elongated/distorted in this picture from the angle of taking it) has made it from concrete to internet. Which is lucky because two days later the rain washed him away. And in the words of Boyfriend, Non-Doll is Non-There.

PROTO-NON-DOLL
As you can see I have posted the original drawing of Non-Doll (all detailed and wood-cut looking) but yesterday as I broke down into deep-cleaning my room I was suddenly curious if I still had the original sketch of Non-Doll. It would have to be in my HIST2710 notebook where I had first been driven to draw him for the sake of staying awake during class. So I sought out a stack of all my notes from last semester and guess what--I FOUND HIM! Guess what else--HE WAS UGLY. I didn't remember making him so hyena-like in proportions, so grotesque in his stitching, and I certainly don't remember giving him little fuzzy hair. Instead of one striped leg he had a patch starting down at his ankle that looked more like a boot. His stitches basically dissected him across the chest. His head is more spherical and above him I had scribbled out the words, "Play with me?" which sounds creepy when you see his deranged little smile. Sort of like if Frankenstein's monster asked you to play hide and seek in a graveyard. I guess his original personality was more of a depressed and disturbed toy who never got played with. This proto-Non-Doll certainly wasn't a work of art. I am a little tempted to post it, just to get a reaction, but he clashes horribly with the style and composition of the blog. I'll save that for later.

The Beginning
Non-Doll is the product of a general education history course that bored me into some of my best doodles and ideas. From lined paper to a scraps of matte board scavenged from the art lab in the university library, Non-Doll has become my new best friend and creative outlet. Facebook has recently begun blaming my connectivity problems for not uploading my new comic panels, but I think there is a deeper jealousy to blame. However, I needed to let more than my Facebook chums take a look-see and befriend my new obsession, so... Non-Doll, meet the world. World, meet Non-Doll.
